Shaping

The final stage that gives tea its recognisable form: needles, pearls, balls, twists, flat blades.

Shaping is partly aesthetic and partly functional — different shapes infuse at different speeds. Gyokuro is shaped into needles; Tieguanyin into tight balls; Bi Luo Chun into delicate spirals. The shape is a language all its own.
