Chawan

/CHAH-wahn/

A wide Japanese tea bowl used for whisking and drinking matcha.

Each chawan has a 'front' marked by the maker's signature, presented to a guest with the front facing them. Wabi-sabi raku-yaki chawan are the most sought-after and live at the centre of Japanese tea ceremony.
